I didn’t actually make much of this costume. Most of it was made by my friend Diana. I just threaded the elastic through the pants and sewed one of the seams of the shirt.

The photo is on the wrong side but I got it at Goodwill for $5.00 and plan on using it for a cosplay so yeah…
Budget cosplaying and stuff…
My Canada costume (minus a wig) was only about $10. I had the shirt, pants and boots already. The only extra things I bought were the jacket for $7 and the fabric for the belts for $3 (which I have extra of if I decide to re-make them).
My CD cover!France costume was about $14. The shirt and scarf were both $3 and the pants were $7 and I just re-used the jacket from my Canada costume.
I got my Italy wig used for $15 and it was in wonderful condition. My Chibitalia shirt was about $3. I’m making the apron and possibly the skirt myself so I don’t know what the end price will be.
I know I’m never going to be one of those people who makes cosplay their life’s ambition and I’m always going to be a budget cosplayer. However, I would like to be more than just a closet cosplayer (though I personally don’t see the term in a negative light like some people do. When I say that, I mean that I’d like to make and customize things to make them work better for cosplay rather than just go with stuff I already have.)
Should I be really disheartened when I hear people say that you can’t have a really nice costume for under $100? ($100 is the most I’d ever be willing to spend and that would have to be on the costume, wig AND accessories, not to mention that the costume would have to be exactly what I wanted or better). I mean,
I don’t want to have OMG THE BEST COSTUME EVARRRR but I would like the stuff I put effort into to look nice, even on a budget. It’s less a question of ideals and more a question of the fact that I’m just out of high school, only work one day a week and have things besides cosplay that I need to spend money on. Maybe I’m being unreasonable but I don’t think so.
